About this drive

This is the famous Brusio Spiral Viaduct (Kreisviadukt von Brusio) in southeastern Switzerland, located on the Bernina Railway. Built in 1908, this spiral railway bridge is a marvel of engineering design. Its spiral structure allows trains to adjust their altitude smoothly over a shorter distance without increasing the load on the train. As the train gently progresses along the 360-degree spiral curve, passengers are treated to a unique sightseeing experience, especially on the Glacier Express and Bernina Express, where they can take in the breathtaking scenery of the Alps. This bridge is not only functional but also stands out as a World Heritage Site due to its elegant curved design. It has become a pilgrimage site for railway enthusiasts worldwide.
